GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Perform a variety of duties related to the professional accounting functions including accounts receivable of the City of Kingsville

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:


  • Audit and reconcile assigned accounts in the general ledger. 
  • Prepare financial reportsstatements, and schedules
  • Monitor and control accounting activities in the recording of financial transactions(i.eaccounts receivableaccounts payablecollections and fixed assets.
  • Researchanalyze, and prepare journals for financial transactions
  • Assist in special projects and research, (i.ebudget, audit, and end-of-year reports.)
  • Maintain computerized accounts receivable records and processes, (i.e. customer files, invoices, data entry, release of liens and providing reports as necessary.) 
  • Provide backup to financial functions, (i.e. payroll and accounts payable.)
  • Research information as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • 2 years of relevant administrative/accounting experience working with accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliation or managing/creating financial reports.
  • Preference: Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and abilities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of methods and applications of computerized accounting.
  • Knowledge of modern office practicesproceduresmethods and equipment. 
  • Ability to examine and verify financial documents and reports. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship and to communicate with department personnelother City employees and the public. 
  • Ability to work overtime as required.


Physical Requirements:


The work in this position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: 


  • Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. 
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. 
  • Visual ability: Sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc. 
  • Hearing ability: Sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recordings on transcription device. 
  • Speaking ability: Sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over the telephone. 
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. 
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. 
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT


May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
